Canon has announced the EOS R6 V, a new full-frame mirrorless camera built around video-centric workflows, alongside the RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ, Canon’s first L-series RF lens with integrated power zoom functionality. The release expands Canon’s EOS V-series lineup with a system focused on handheld production, gimbal use, and creator-oriented video features including Open Gate recording, internal cooling, and integrated zoom controls.

The EOS R6 V body is expected to launch in late June 2026 for an estimated retail price of $2,499 USD, while a kit including the RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens is expected at $3,699 USD. The RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens alone is expected to launch in late June for $1,399 USD. Canon also announced multiple creator accessory kits and optional accessories launching between late June and early July.
The EOS R6 V continues Canon’s broader push toward solidifying a stronger position in the growing hybrid creator market, particularly among users whose workflows lean more heavily toward video than traditional photography. Features like Open Gate recording, internal cooling, integrated zoom controls, and a body design optimized for handheld and gimbal shooting suggest Canon is increasingly treating this category as distinct from its conventional stills-focused mirrorless lineup rather than simply adding video features onto existing cameras.
The release also positions the EOS R6 V as a likely direct response to cameras such as the Nikon ZR, reflecting a broader industry trend toward compact full-frame systems designed specifically around creator and cinema-adjacent workflows. Canon’s inclusion of a dedicated power zoom L-series lens alongside the body reinforces that strategy, signaling an emphasis on solo production, livestreaming, vertical content, and stabilized video shooting rather than traditional hybrid photography alone.
